BDT Pty Ltd (T/As as Rockstar Sealing) was fined $12,000 plus costs after a worker was injured after an explosion involving a 20L container of hydrochloric acid. It is understood that the incident was as a result of an unlabelled container suspected of containing Hydrogen Peroxide that was used to top up the 20L Hydrochloric Acid container. Hydrochloric Acid and Hydrogen Peroxide are mixed, the resulting chemical reaction can produce Chlorine gas. Chlorine gas is a pulmonary irritant that can cause acute damage in the upper and lower respiratory tract, if inhaled by a person. For more information click here
