OHS for Managers & Supervisors

All staff have the responsibility to ensure that the work they oversee and participate in is carried out in ways that safeguard the occupational health and safety (OHS) of themselves and others in their charge including students and contractors they are supervising or managing. This course provides managers with an understanding of OHS legal requirements and the principles of effective management of this function.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND THIS COURSE:  This course is designed for anyone who has an Occupational Health and Safety responsibility in a laboratory situation, such as laboratory managers, laboratory supervisors, laboratory health and safety representatives, OHS Consultants and Facilities/Property Services Managers.

Ergonomics and Manual Handling (1/2 day)

Participants who attend this session will learn general ergonomic principles and apply to their own workplace.  Posture, equipment, organisation of work systems and processes will be discussed. This course is designed for all staff and post-graduate students.

Risk Management and Risk Assessment

The purpose of this course is to teach staff the principles of risk management techniques and the application of a hazard management methodology.  The course discusses the various interactions between people and their activities, equipment, environment and work systems when controlling OHS risks in workplaces.
