COVID 10 ANNOUNCEMENT

Lisa J Stevens & Associates Pty Ltd is aware of community and industry concern about COVID19 – and the impact this outbreak on the community at large and specific industries such as the education sector, chemical manufacturing and allied areas.

Coronaviruses (CoV) are a large family of viruses that cause illness from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV).   First described in detail in the 1960s, the coronavirus gets its name from a distinctive corona or 'crown' of sugary-proteins that projects from the envelope surrounding the particle.

While there have been a significant number of  confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Australia.  Safe Work Australia said Covid-19  is a hazard and urged organisations to monitor expert advice provided by the likes of the Department of Health and  local state or territory health departments.

Workers also have a duty to take reasonable care for their own health and safety and to not adversely affect the health and safety of others, and workers should always practice hygiene and other measures to protect against infections, including by:

  • social distancing (1.5 mtrs)
  • avoid large social gatherings (note Government requirements for social gatherings)
  • restrict non essential travel
  • washing their hands often, with soap and water, or carrying hand sanitiser and using it as needed
  • covering their mouth while coughing or sneezing
  • seeing a health care professional if they start to feel unwell.

At the present time,  Lisa Stevens and myself will be continuing to offer are current services but in  different format for the duration of this outbreak.  We are currently planning our next  Safety in Laboratories and Laboratory Design and Construction Standards Explained Course for 2021 as well updating our Safety in Secondary School Laboratories Short Courses. It is hoped that by November, Safety in Secondary School Laboratories Short Course will be able to go ahead as this is a face to face course.

At this stage, we will continue to conduct laboratory safety audits, taking into account the current requirement for social distancing and travel restrictions.
